IPv4 Large Block Transfers

Published on March 22nd, 2018

In our February 2018 blog we looked at the large spike in IPv4 transfer volume in the 4th quarter of 2017.  It became clear that the spike was mostly due to a high number of large block transfers.  To dive into this deeper, we extracted data from the RIPE, ARIN and APNIC transfer logs to see who is making these large transfers.  This data is below:

IPv4 Large Block Transfers

The transfers in ARIN involve the transfer of portions of /8s belonging to General Electric, Nortel (Bell Northern) and Computer Sciences Corporation.  The RIPE transfers took place between related companies.

We have now seen the North American entities of MIT, GE, Nortel, CSC, Lilly, Merck, Xerox, Dupont, Merit, and Halliburton transfer IPv4 addresses out of their /8s.  Who will be next?
